The wheels of the Quiche and Dreamspell Tzolkin synchronized.
T he Tzolkin, also known as The Mayan Calendar, is one of 19 different calendars that the Ancient Maya used to synchronize the cycles of individuals and society with the larger cycles of the Earth and Cosmos. Unlike many of the other Calendars used by the Ancient Maya, the Tzolkin's cycles were not based on the movements of stellar bodies, but instead on the frequency generated by two sub-cycles. A cycle of 20 days, which corresponds to the 20 archetypes or signs of the Calendar and a cycle of 13 days which corresponds to the energetic frequency each one of the Archetypes can express. So, the Tzolkin is created by 20 Archetypes that are each paired with one of the 13 "energetic tones", thus creating a 260 day Calendar in which the 20 archetypes are combined with the 13 tones. Both the Quiche count and the Dreamspell count are made up of the exact same calendar of 260 days, their differences lie in the language used for interpreting and discribing the attributes of the signs and the way these calendars are synchronized with the solar 365 cycle. The Traditional descriptions are rooted in Mayan myth and lore which contain timeless truths. Even so, the interpretations usually place deities and perspectives of the world that are not always clear to the modern person. The meanings of these interpretatons are part of an invaluable leagacy of wisdom, left for us by a civilization that held a very different perspective on life and the universe than the one we hold. It is due to this gap in our perspective and theirs that there generaly seems to be quite a bit lost in translation, not to mention the lack of common experience to bridge the practical applications of this wise science from the time of the Maya to ours. A similarity is found here between the Quiche and Dreamspell counts, except that the Dreamspell goes in the oposite direction, it pushes so far into what humanity may become, using poetic language focused in a new age, futuristic perspective and vocabulary, that it remains largely inaccesible to the general public. This is reason why Alejandra has collected contemporary metaphors and vocabulary in order to make this knowledge avalible to people with modern lives and and concerns. Whether it is a housewife, business person, skeptic, teenager or other, Alejandra's interpretations are done with the intent to merge the ancient and the futuristic and firmly ground this synergy in the world today.
